Al Qaim International School Wins Silver at APEGA Science Olympics 2026
The School wins SILVER AT APEGA SCIENCE OLYMPICS 2026
Al Qaim International School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our students at the APEGA Science Olympics 2026, held at the Olympic Oval in Calgary on May 23, 2026. The event brought together young innovators from across Calgary to participate in engineering and geoscience challenges focused on creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and STEM learning. More than 1,000 students participated in this year’s sports-themed competition.
Our school team competed in Division 4, for Grades 10–12, alongside many other participating teams from across Calgary. According to the official results provided by APEGA, the Al Qaim team achieved an excellent standing and proudly secured the Silver Trophy in the competition.
Celebrating Excellence
A Creative Zamboni Bot Prototype
For the school challenge, our students designed and built a Zamboni bot prototype while working within a strict budget and following the competition rubric. The bot was a wireless creation that could be controlled by a remote.
The team focused on creating a “best out of waste” project by using creative, resourceful, and practical materials. Their design was very well received, and the judges specifically commented on the innovative nature of the prototype.
On-the-Spot Engineering Challenge
In the on-the-spot challenge, students were asked to design a hockey helmet that could help protect the head from significant impacts. This activity allowed students to demonstrate their creativity, teamwork, quick thinking, and engineering problem-solving skills.
The event also included an exciting bot face-off competition, where students participated with great enthusiasm and enjoyed applying their STEM knowledge in a practical and competitive environment.
Congratulations to our Team
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our students and coach for their hard work, dedication, teamwork, and exceptional achievement.
